While we are certainly born with genes that help determine everything from our height to our risk for heart disease, we are making a monumental mistake by assuming that we can not control our genes—especially when it comes to aging. For the first time in history, the medical world has uncovered the miraculous biological processes that control how and why we age the way we do. Truth is, much of aging is actually in our control; we have the power to nudge our biological systems so that even our unwanted genes can work in our favor.

If we can learn how the body works, there is no reason why we can not live to be 100 and beyond—with vigor of someone half that age (or even younger!). To do it, the audience will learn that aging is really not about preventing disease; getting rid of heart disease and cancer gains us less than a decade of life. Rather we need to slow the rate of aging to avoid the frailty that would make longevity less desirable. Attendees will ultimately learn that the real trick is not avoiding the periodic break downs, but rather teaching our bodies to better repair themselves when they do.

In the end, we are probably the best educated people about our bodies in the history of the planet, but knowledge alone does not motivate change. To really transform the landscape of health, we need to understand what the action steps are for living well. With this visceral appreciation of how health works, we can become the world expert on our bodies.
