Digoxin (Lanoxin) Instructions
Your doctor has prescribed this medication to help your heart pump more efficiently and to decrease the occurrence of irregular heart rhythms. Do not take this medication if you have had an allergic reaction to digoxin.
How should I take this medication?
- Take this medication as ordered even if you are feeling fine.
- Check your pulse every morning before taking this medication. If your pulse is less than 50 beats per minute or your pulse is irregular and this is a new symptom, call your doctor's office and ask to speak with a nurse.
- Take your digoxin once a day in the morning, unless otherwise instructed.
- If you forget to take your medicine, do not double up on your next dose because the medicine affects your heart, it is not god to miss doses or to stop the medicine suddenly.
What else should I do while I take this medication?
- Have routine laboratory blood tests as instructed by your doctor.
Possible side effects of Digoxin:
- Call your doctor's office right away if you experience loss of appetite, nausea, muscle weakness, fatigue, blurred vision, or yellow-green haloes around visual objects.
- Notify your doctor if you heart rate becomes irregular.
Medication interactions:
- Tell your doctor before starting this drug if you are on any of the following medication: warfarin (Coumadin), amiodarone (Cordarone or Pacerone), diltiazem (Cardizem or Tiazac), nifedipine (Procardia or Adalat), quinidine, verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, Verelan). The dose of digoxin you are taking may need to be adjusted if you are taking any of these medications.
- Should another doctor start you on any new medications, please notify us so we have an accurate and current list of your medications and bring it with you to the doctor's office.
