A Woman's Heart
Specialized Care from Heart Center of the Rockies

Heart disease claims the lives of more women than any other cause. In fact, one-in-two women in the United States will die from heart disease or stroke. The majority of women who die suddenly from a heart attack had no prior symptoms, and as many as two-thirds of women who suffer a heart attack do not make a full recovery.

Even given those startling statistics, many still view heart disease as a man's disease or one of old age. The reality is that heart disease doesn't discriminate.

Raising Awareness
To help women more easily understand their personal heart disease risk, Heart Center of the Rockies has created "A Woman's Heart." Through this program, we offer a pre-screening questionnaire to assess your personal risk, a low-cost screening exam with a cardiac nurse, and an advanced risk assessments, when appropriate.

On our Heart Center staff, we have a cardiac nurse, Kerry, and a resource specialist, Mindy, available to address all your concerns. At our main facility, we have designed and provide a specialized patient room just for our women heart patients. Raising awareness about cardiac care for women is our primary concern.

Risk and Prevention
Knowing your risks, leading a healthy lifestyle, and taking preventive action can delay or even prevent heart disease in many cases.

The first step is to identify whether you have any risk factors that contribute to heart disease. These might include:

  • family history
  • smoking
  • high blood pressure
  • high cholesterol
  • diabetes
  • overweight/obesity
  • physical inactivity

The second important step is to take action. By eliminating or controlling risk factors, women can greatly reduce her overall chance of developing heart disease.
