Evaluating your risk
Our team will help you to understand your risks for heart disease. The first step is to identify whether you have any risk factors that contribute to heart disease. These might include:
- family history
- smoking
- high blood pressure
- high cholesterol
- diabetes
- overweight/obesity
- physical inactivity
To evaluate your heart health, Dr. Austin will review your risk factors, take a medical history of symptoms and conduct a physical exam. Dr. Austin may also order one or more of the following tests to help evaluate your condition.
- Lab work to identify traditional and novel risk markers
- Electrocardiogram
- Ankle-brachial index
- Echocardiogram
- Exercise stress test
- Vascular ultrasound
- Carotid IMT
- Coronary calcium score
