Signs & Symptoms
Warning signs for a heart attack:
Women are also somewhat more likely than men to experience atypical symptoms such as abdominal or stomach pain, weakness, dizziness or feelings of anxiety.
If you or someone you know experiences any of the above symptoms and you think may be having a heart attack do not delay treatment. Calling 911 can limit damage to the heart or save a life. Also talk with your friends and family members about the warning signs and the need to call 911.
Warning signs for a heart attack:
Chest discomfort -
Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that will last for more than a couple of minutes. It may feel like pressure, a squeezing sensation, fullness, or pain. This discomfort could be mild, severe, or it may come and go.
Discomfort in other areas of the body -
Pain between the shoulders or pain or discomfort that radiates into one or both arms, neck, and jaw.
Shortness of breath -
Shortness of breath may occur alone or along with chest discomfort.
Other signs -
Other signs of a heart attack include nausea, light-headedness and/or breaking out in a cold sweat.
